This is one of my favorite introductory lesson plans as I teach a unit on "Imaging" in a digital media communications class. This lesson or test offers a broad range of different images of celebrities in our culture for the students to try to identify from their visual likeness. The students number their paper from 1-42 to see how many of these famous likenesses they can identify, and when the answers are revealed they are asked to evaluate the type of celebrity they most often can identify as well as the least known. There are great discussion questions at the end of the activity for students to ponder as well as an assessment that asks students to create a claim or statement based on their astute observation about imaging in our culture. I am offering THE IMAGE TEST as an open source lesson as it includes likenesses that do not belong to me to sell, and have relevance in my school's proximity. Cheers.

Like many teachers, I have a summer reading assignment that is due at the beginning of the school year. Since we have so many books on the list, I decided to create an digital assessment menu that covered lots of different digital assessments as a nice creative way to start the year as well as to assess digital media skills. This was an easy project that did not take the students much time at all to assemble, and attach to Google Classroom. Great idea to use with free choice books as well... If you are anything like me, I have about a million parent communications that I engage with a day. To make that process easier, I created a google form that I can easily access from my book mark tool bar. By adding this form readily, I just enter the information quickly which feeds into my google sheet. Then, I can keep a nice and easy record of all of the interactions I have during the day without too much trouble. Feel free to use this idea with logging interventions.

On the first day of class, I have students write to me about who they are, but on DAY TWO, I like the students to investigate each other while pre-assessing some communication skills. The Lesson: 1. Every student is assigned a partner. I usually choose by proximity. 2. I read the prompt and the assignment aloud emphasizing the UNIQUE angle. 2. Then, I show students how to generate questions using "Student Interview Notes" page 2. 3. Students are given ten minutes to generate questions. I have provided sample questions for students who struggle. 4. Then, each of the students get ten minutes to interview their partner using their questions. 5. Then, the students are instructed to use any digital presentation platform to create a presentation about their partner. 6. Based on time, I would have them present each other in front of the classroom to assess speaking skills or just turn in the digital media presentation on Google Classroo...
